Health and Wellness Contract
Buyer accepts full responsibility for the care of this kitten and agrees to the following terms:
1. Buyer shall agree to provide the kitten with:
a. A life-long commitment, veterinary care, proper grooming and responsible care for the kitten, included but not limited to yearly check-ups and vaccinations
b. A safe environment and proper, nutritious quality food given at regular intervals and fresh, clean water at all times.
c. An indoor home only. The kitten should not be allowed to roam freely outdoors
however, supervised outdoor enrichment is encouraged!
d. A clean litterbox that is changed daily. If sharing litterboxes with other cats/kittens, it is extremely important to keep the litter fresh as stepping in feces and urine and then ingesting it can causes illness.
e. A non-caged living space. The kitten should have ample space to roam and play and should not be kept in a cage for an extended period of time. Boarding situations are an exception.
f. Scratching posts and scratch pads. Kittens are not to be declawed for any reason. Declawing is the amputation of the tips of the fingers and toes and is an inhumane procedure.
g. A forever home. The kitten should not be given away, resold or abandoned for any reason, to anyone without consent of the breeder.
2. In the event the buyer can no longer care for the kitten for any reason, the breeder should get first right of refusal and if breeder accepts the kitten, the buyer assumes all expenses to provide the kitten/cat back to said breeder.
a. In the event the buyer can no longer care for the kitten and the breeder resumes care for the animal, the kitten/cat must be examined by a licensed veterinarian within three calendar days prior to arriving back to the breeder having tested negative for the following:
FELV/FIV
Ringworm, heartworm and other parasites (by having culture taken and sent to the lab).
All medical records will be transferred, and ownership will automatically revert back to the breeder. All veterinarian costs and transportation expenses shall be the buyer’s responsibility.
b. In the event the breeder is not able to take the kitten back, the breeder will try to find the kitten/cat a forever home.
3. Health and genetic diseases guarantee:
a. Breeder provides the buyer a limited, three-day health and a two year genetic health guarantee for the kitten/cat.
b. Buyer should have the kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within three business days from the date the kitten is picked up from the breeder.
This examination is an external exam (no vaccines needed) to ensure your kitten is in-fact, healthy.
c. The kitten shall not have any contact with any other animal until the examination is complete.
If the kitten is found ill with a life-threatening disease during that examination, the buyer may return the kitten within 48 hours for a kitten of equal value and color (when a kitten is available).
Any veterinarian bills and/or costs and debts on behalf of this kitten is the sole responsibility of the buyer. The breeder shall offer no cash refunds for any reason.
The health guarantee does not include viruses, colds, traumas, UTI’s, fleas, fungus, mites or any other type of parasite commonly found in kittens (coccidia, giardia, hookworms, roundworms, etc.), or any airborne sickness, as they can be contracted after the kitten leaves the breeder’s house.
d. The buyer will have the kitten vaccinated for booster shots at approximately 16 weeks of age and then once a year thereafter.
e. If the kitten dies of a genetic defect within two physical years of the date of birth, the breeder will replace the kitten with another kitten of equal value and color, when possible, as long as:
The kitten was examined originally within the three-day period from the date of sale by a licensed veterinarian.
The genetic defect is evident in performed necropsy by a licensed veterinarian and such report is submitted to the breeder.
The breeder’s veterinarian is in agreement with the result of the performed necropsy report.
e. FIP- If a kitten dies before its first birthday due to FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitus), we will replace the kitten with another kitten of equal value, color, pattern and sex when a kitten is available if:
1. The terms of the contract have been fulfilled up to the point of the kitten passing.
2. A licensed veterinarian has performed conclusive tests that lead to the diagnosis of FIP. (There is no specific test for FIP).
3. Our veterinarian is in agreement with the test results.
**Most cats will become infected with one or more strains of the feline corona virus in its lifetime. 90% of cats who are infected with feline enteric corona virus remain healthy. FIP is caused by a mutated strain of the feline corona virus and is deadly. Although there has been extensive research to understand why the mutation happens in some cats and not others, no scientific evidence has been found. The research is ongoing and only 5-10% of cats will develop FIP. There is no vaccine for FIP and currently the only cure is an off-market treatment that can be obtained by joining the FIP Warriors Facebook page.
4. Spay/neuter policy:
a. The buyer agrees to spay/neuter their kitten by the kitten's first birthday. It is recommended to have the procedure done when the kitten is approximately 6 months old.
b. When proof of spay or neuter is provided to the breeder (paperwork from a licensed veterinarian must be provided), the breeder will then provide buyer with all TICA paperwork to properly register the kitten.
c. The kitten is not to be mated with any cat unless breeding rights are purchased.
d. If the contract is breeched by mating the cat, you agree to pay breeder a breeding rights fee of $3400.
e. No TICA paperwork will be provided to buyer if the buyer breeches this contract by mating the cat.
By signing below, you are agreeing to the terms of this contract and are also in agreement that the kitten purchased appears to be in excellent health, there are no signs of illness, mites, fleas, trauma or genetic defects.
